The cement silo is an integral piece of equipment for any concrete production operation. The silo allows the product to be purchased and stored in bulk, keeping costs to a minimum. Zimmerman Industries will help you evaluate your particular requirements to ensure that the cement silo best suited for you is selected. Variables for silo selection include loading site design, height restrictions, available power source, and the need to move the silo to an alternate location.

Silos used for cement storage are often sized by the term “barrel”. This designation refers to the amount of material that the silo can hold when full, and is defined as 4 cubic feet of a given material. To convert this value to WEIGHT or MASS of material that can be held, the weight (mass) per cubic foot must be known. Since cement is usually loaded pneumatically, the amount of air that is integrated in the cement must be accounted for to avoid overfilling of the silo.

The following data can be used to determine the silo capacity needed.

  • 1 Barrel of Cement = 300 lbs of blown in, or “fluffed” cement.

  • 200 Barrel Silo – Loaded Capacity of 60,000 lbs / 30 tons

  • 300 Barrel Silo – Loaded Capacity of 90,000 lbs / 45 tons

Round Portable Silo

The round portable silo comes with axles and wheels attached so that they may be easily relocated. In many cases, this portability allows for variances to restrictions that apply to stationary units. The silo must be emptied prior to lowering and moving, as the axles are only rated for the empty unit. Typically, these units can be transported with a 1 ton truck.

270 Barrel Portable Silo

  • 8'6" Dia. x 31' high

  • Positive feed drive

  • 7" Dia. screw x 17' long

  • 5 HP motor and gear box drive

  • Electric brakes and light package

  • 150 sq. ft. bag area dust house with air vibrator

  • Caged ladder and railing package

  • External air pads with manifold

  • Trailer jack

  • Weight: 8,500#

350 Barrel Portable Silo

  • 8'6" Dia. x 37' high

  • Positive Feed Drive

  • 9" Dia. screw x 17' long

  • 10 HP motor and gear box drive

  • Heavy duty dual axle trailer and tires

  • Electric brakes and light package

  • 150 sq. ft. bag area dust house with air vibrator

  • Caged ladder and railing package

  • External air pads with manifold

  • Trailer jack

  • Weight: 10,000#

Available barrel sizes: 185, 270, 350, 450, 550, 700, 900, 1050

Low Profile Portable Silo

When height is limited, either for code specifications or physical location restrictions, this silo is the solution. The silo comes with axles and wheels attached so that it may be moved. The axles and wheels are only rated for an empty unit, so the silo must be alternately supported prior to loading and unloaded prior to moving. As with the upright portable silo, this silo can normally be moved with a 1 ton truck.
